A message from the Animal Warden

The Rushville Animal Shelter provides a temporary home for dogs and cats who don’t have one for whatever reason.

We operate a “low kill” facility, meaning that we make every effort to place the animals in our care with someone who will love and care for them. To help accomplish this goal, we have partnered with other organizations locally and throughout the state and nation who also have a passion for finding stray or abandoned animals a loving individual or family.

All of the animals in our care are available for adoption for a small fee. We insist that all of the animals’ required shots be brought up-to-date and that new owners also are willing to place a microchip in the animal to assist in returning it to its home in the event it gets loose and ends up in our care.

We also do what we can to help local pet owners by providing straw for bedding in those cases where the owner can’t afford to do so.

We also encourage Rushville and Rush County citizens to help us as we help the animals who end up in the local shelter. We are always in need of donations. Those items most needed include dog and cat food, bleach, paper towels, Dawn dish detergent and old blankets or towels.

We do our very best to maintain a clean facility and encourage anyone interested to stop by and see the improvements we’ve made – or to check out the animals we have on hand who are looking for some place to call home and someone to love and care for them.

If you ever have any questions or want to talk to me about adopting a pet, stop by the animal shelter at 223 Smiley Avenue, give me a call at 932-4754 or email me at cityofrushvilleanimalshelter@frontier.com.

I look forward to hearing from you!
